Berlusconi says PdL party switching back to Forza Italia

Rome, July 23 - Three-time premier Silvio Berlusconi said Wednesday his center-left People of Freedom (PdL) party will soon be revamped and relaunched under the original name he used to sweep onto the political scene in 1994, Forza Italia. "We've decided to go back to Forza Italia because, as we did 20 years ago, we want to focus on young people and the leaders of the labor force in order to get them engaged in our common destiny," said Berlusconi on Facebook. The change will take effect in September. Earlier this month the media magnate said Forza Italia, a common soccer chant that means 'Go Italy', had more appeal to voters than the PdL, which lost millions of supporters in the February general election but still came a close second to the centre-left Democratic Party (PD). "It isn't right that only a few people have our country's interests in mind while the rest look on from afar, criticizing those who commit themselves," he added. "I hope that by launching Forza Italia in the month of September we can add many Italians with their enthusiasm and their passion.
