Milan, most other European markets show gains Monday

Milan, July 18 - Milan's main financial market showed some small gains Monday while its European counterparts turned in mixed results. The FTSE-Mib rose by 0.68% to close at 16,233 points amid a quiet day on markets as investors had little economic news to trade on. The spread between Italy's 10-year bond and its German counterpart closed just below 280 basis points, while the yield on Italian 10-year paper closed at 4.3%. The spread between lending rates in the two countries is seen as an indication of investor faith in the Italian economy and its ability to cope with a lingering recession. On other European markets, Frankfurt's DAX was flat on the day, closing at 8,331.06 points, Paris's CAC 40 gained 0.37%, closing at 3,939.92 points, Spain's IBEX 35 rose by 0.29% to close at 7,966 points, and London's FTSE 100 slipped by 0.11% to end trading at 6,623.17.
