Tourist apologises to Pisa for graffiti

Pisa, July 19 - A 21-year-old Danish man apologised to Pisa on Friday for carving his name and that of a friend into the marble wall of the city's Medieval cathedral. The young tourist was arrested by police on Wednesday and immediately jailed after damaging the Romanesque landmark church with his key. At his hearing on Friday, the man paid a fine of 600 euros - the amount indicated that would be needed to clean the damage done. The sum was scraped together by his friends, who were on vacation together with him. The judge released the young man on condition that he leave the city the same day. The man then turned to the judge and apologised to the city for his vandalism.
