Italy may sell stakes in ENI, ENEL, Finmeccanica

Comprenhensive debt-reduction strategy by year's end

Italy may sell stakes in ENI, ENEL, Finmeccanica

Rome, July 19 - The Italian State may sell stakes in oil and gas multi-national ENI, the electricity provider ENEL, and the defence and transport giant Finmeccanica, Italian Economy Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni told Bloomberg TV in Moscow in an interview broadcast Friday. Saccomanni said the privatisations may be undertaken to help reduce the national debt. "We are considering this - these companies are profitable and give dividends to the Treasury. We must also consider the possibility of using them as collateral for reducing the debt," Saccomanni said on the sidelines of the G20 conference in the Russian capital. "There are a few ideas that we must take into consideration," Saccomanni added. "I hope that before the end of the year we can clarify what our vision is for a comprehensive strategy for a scheme that allows the acceleration of debt reduction".
