Government says outstanding issues to be resolved by Aug 31

Rome, July 18 - During cabinet meetings on Thursday, the Italian government vowed to overcome a series of outstanding issues plaguing Premier Enrico Letta's left-right coalition before August 31. The issues to be hammered out are an acceleration for the government debt-repayment plan to private companies, a solution for the IMU property tax, alternatives to a rise in the value-added tax (VAT) and a solution for the country's so-called 'esodati', workers who were left without a job or pension as a result of a change in retirement laws passed by the previous Monti government.
