Man beaten by disabled bus passenger risks paralysis

Florence, July 18 - A Nigerian man who was beaten by a disabled bus passenger in Florence on Thursday risks paralysis, doctors said. The 45-year-old man allegedly hesitated to give up his standing spot designated for disabled passengers to a 41-year-old Romanian man in a wheelchair. After intervening, the bus driver said that a fight broke out and the Nigerian man was severely beaten by the man in the wheelchair, who used a cane as a weapon. The Nigerian was taken to a hospital in Florence with several fractured vertebrae. The man in the wheelchair and another Romanian suspected of participating in the beating are being questioned by police, who have confiscated the disabled man's blood-covered cane.
