Spread passes 300 basis points, then settles below again

Milan, July 18 - The spread between Italy's 10-year bond and its German counterpart that opened on Thursday at 296.8 jumped briefly over the psychologically important mark of 300 basis points before settling below once again. The yield spread between Italian bonds and the German benchmark, a barometer of Italy's borrowing costs in the eurozone crisis, hiccupped amid concerns about the tensions over government meetings and last week's decision by Standard & Poor's to cut the country's credit rating.
