Save the Children calls for national plan to fight poverty

(ANSA)- Rome, July 17 - Italy must launch a plan to combat child poverty, the organization Save the Children said Wednesday. Its comments came the same day the national statistical agency Istat reported that poverty among Italians and especially children is rising. It noted that more than one million children are living in poverty in the country's troubled south. The report is a "loud alarm" about a growing problem that must be addressed, said Raffaela Milan, Italian program director of Save the Children in Europe.
