At least 20 Indian children die from tainted school meal

In eastern state of Bihar

New Delhi, July 17 - At least 20 children have died and dozens have fallen sick after eating a tainted school meal in India's eastern state of Bihar, Cnn-Ibn television reports. The incident, which sparked violent protests Wednesday, occurred the previous day in a primary school in the district of Chapra. After the free meal, provided under the Mid-Day meal scheme, the world's largest school feeding programme aimed at fighting malnutrition and boosting school attendance, the children aged four to eight started feeling sick and at least 30 were reportedly taken to a local hospital and another facility in the state's capital Patna. Some of the hospitalized children are critically ill.
