Perugio, July 16 - A pair of rare white donkeys born in the Città della Domenica nature park near the town of Perugia on Tuesday are just the first of four the reserve is expecting this month. The albino donkey native to the island of Sardinia and its nearby Asinara isle and is now a protected species. The first of the rare Sardinian donkeys, a 20-year-old mare, arrived in the Umbrian park that celebrates its 50-year anniversary this year, in the 1980s when only a very few of the breed remained. Through a conservation project conducted in collaboration with the University of Perugia's Faculty of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and the Equestrian Institute of Ozieri (Sassari), other donated Sardinian donkeys have arrived and begun to breed. To celebrate the new arrivals, the park will be holding "The Feast of the White Donkey" Saturday and Sunday with games and donkey-themed activities.
