Fiat Group's sales down 13.6% in Europe in June

Rome, July 16 - Fiat Group Automobiles in June sold 69,027 vehicles in Europe, down 13.6% on the 79,892 registered in the same month in 2012, according to data released on Tuesday. Fiat Group's European vehicle sales were down 11% in May year-on-year. Fiat Group's market share in Europe (the European Union countries plus European Free Trade Association countries) was 5.9% in June, a decline of 0.5% compared to a year ago and of 0.9% on May. The automaker's total market share for Europe in the first half of 2013 was 6.4%, slipping 0.2% compared to the first six months of 2012. Fiat's share worldwide new vehicle registrations in the first half of 2013 fell 10.3% compared to the same period in 2012 to 409,142. The Fiat Group said in a statement it was ''penalized by the negative performance of the Italian market and by the lack of several parts that kept numerous vehicles in the yards,'' but that sales ''nonetheless grew in France, United Kingdom and Spain''. Among the carmaker's various brands, Fiat's European registrations lost 6% compared to June 2012. Lancia/Chysler sales fell 33.2% to 6,478 in the same period. + Alfa Romeo and Jeep sales sank 34.1% and 32.1% respectively. Fiat's Panda compact economy model, its Freemont SUV, the revamped classic compacts 500 and 500L, are bestsellers in their segments, the automaker noted. Fiat Group stock fell 1.68% on the Milan bourse to 5.84% following the release of the data.
