Three arrest warrants for alleged 5-million-euro kidnap plan

Cagliari, July 15 - Three arrest warrants were issued by authorities on the Italian island of Sardinia for an alleged 5-million-euro kidnap plan that was to be put in effect in February 2012 on the day of President Giorgio Napolitano's visit to the area. The three allegedly wanted to kidnap Alessandro Podda, an entrepreneur who owns a cheese-making business in Cagliari, Sardinia. Two of the men, Niveo and Gianfranco Batzella, are already in custody for having allegedly committed other crimes. The third man is 49-year old Efisio Mereu who works for the cheese producer.
