India to end Italian marine inquiry by August, delegate says

New Delhi, July 12 - India said it hopes to conclude an inquiry by the end of August into the shooting and killing of two local fishermen by two Italian marines, who allegedly mistook them for pirates while guarding a merchant ship off the Kerala coast, an Italian government delegate charged with following the matter said on Friday. ''All things point to the intention of finishing the investigation in August'', Staffan de Mistura told Ansa news agency whilst in New Delhi to follow the matter with the Indian government. Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone are currently being accused by Indian authorities of the double homicides of fishermen Valentine (aka Gelastine) and Ajesh Binki in February 2012. Earlier on Friday Cabinet Secretary Roberto Garofoli met with relatives of the two marines in the southern Italian city of Taranto and said the government will continue pursuing ''with determination'' the return of two to Italy.
