Italian labour minister says no new austerity needed

Rome, July 11 - Italian Labour Minister Enrico Giovannini said on Thursday that no new austerity measures are needed at present to keep public books under control. Asked whether new tax-raising or budget-cutting measures were needed to succour public finances, Giovannini replied, "The government is watching with great attention not only the evolution of the economy, but also the deficit. "I am sure that (Economy) Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni knows how to keep accounts under control, and thus nothing of the kind is foreseen for now".
