Letta promises to speed up payment of 40 billion to business

Rome, July 10 - In the next few days, the Italian government will move to pay billions of what it owes private businesses, Premier Enrico Letta said Wednesday. "We will remove obstacles" to accelerating payments on the billions owed by government, Letta told the House, answering a question by the whip of the center-right People of Freedom (PDL) party, Renato Brunetta. "In the coming days" the government will figure out what technical measures are needed to speed up payments to private firms that have provided service to government, he added. The government had previously pledged to pay 40 billion euros owed to businesses between 2013 and 2014. The payments will inject much-needed cash into the recession-plagued Italian economy.
