Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi's actions 'grave'

M5S to bring up renting Ponte Vecchio in parliament

Rome, July 9 - The anti-establishment 5-Star Movement on Tuesday said it would question in parliament what it called a "grave" move on the part of the mayor of Florence to block off the famed Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence last month for a private party hosted by the Ferrari motor company. "We will demand clarity," said M5S Senator Maurizio Romani. Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi, who is believed to be a likely leadership contender for the centre-left Democratic Party (PD), has defended his administration's actions. "We would do it again," he said last week, calling Ferrari an important potential investor for Florence and arguing that the 120,000 euros earned could go towards projects such as holiday camps for disabled children.
