Callers to anti-immigrant radio show denounce pope's visit

Milan, July 8 - While Muslim groups and Vatican officials cheered Pope Francis's visit to an immigration centre Monday, callers to the anti-immigrant Radio Padania Libera radio station in northern Italy were less pleased. Several denounced immigration and said if the pope liked immigrants so well, he should invite them to live in Vatican City. Others suggested immigrants are responsible for violence in society. "I would have expected a few words for those who are killed and raped by them," said Giovanni. Another woman called herself a "very indignant Catholic," complaining that Pope Francis and his predecessors should denounce immigrant violence. Radio Padania Libera is the official station of the anti-immigrant Northern League party.
