62.3% of households scrimped on food in 2012

Rome, July 5 - The percentage of Italian households cutting back on food quality or quantity rose from 53.6% in 2011 to 62.3% in 2012, Istat said Friday. Households in recession-hit Italy are increasingly being forced to employ "consumption-reduction strategies on the food they put on their tables," the statistics agency said.
