Italian oil platform sinks off coast of Angola, one missing

Milan, July 2 - Italian oil-services company Saipem said Tuesday that one of its plants has sunk off the coast of Angola, leaving one person missing and six injured. The accident occurred overnight on the Perro Negro 6 platform in waters between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in southern Africa. Emergency crews are searching for the missing worker who has not been identified though is believed not to be Italian. The company said in a statement that no environmental damage was evident at the moment. There were 103 workers on the platform at the time of the accident, the cause of which has not been explained.
