Italian youth employment drops 7% in five years through 2012

Rome, June 27 - Youth employment in Italy, the eurozone's third largest economy, dropped by a dramatic 7% between 2008 and 2012 to 32.5%, according to data released by national statistics office Istat on Thursday at a parliament commission hearing. Of the total drop, a 1.2% decline was related to the 12 months ending in December 31, 2012 In the past year, the decline totalled 132,000 positions, and the employment rate for those in the 15-29 range fell by 727,000 work positions in the five-year period to 32.5%.
