Italy to join with Jordan to build Syrian refugee camp

Rome, June 25 - Italy is working with the Jordanian government to build a new camp near the town of Azraq for refugees from Syria, Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino said on Tuesday. Bonino said during a visit to the Al Zaatari camp in northern Jordan that the new camp will be roughly 100 kilometers from Amman and will include schools and a hospital. The Al Zaatari camp that already houses 150,000 people of whom 70% are women and children, is filled to capacity and risks overflowing with an expected influx over the next weeks. After Lebanon, Jordan has the highest number of refugees at half a million fleeing from Syria's civil war.
