Two Italian officers arrested in international drug sweep

Criminal organization could be linked to man's 2011 death

Two Italian officers arrested in international drug sweep

Rome, June 21 - Two police officers were among 10 people arrested in an international drug sweep on Friday in Rome and Perugia, Italian Carabinieri police said. The Rome busts took place in the Prati neighborhood where police believe a criminal organization carried out operations with the help of the officers arrested. Friends of a 33-year-old man, Flavio Simmi, who was shot dead on the street in the same neighborhood in July 2011, were arrested and believed to be part of a wider criminal drug ring. Police found drugs hidden inside souvenirs and pictures in a neighborhood home during searches on Friday morning.
