Ancona, June 20 - Italian demonstrators occupied the Turkish honorary consulate in the coastal city of Ancona on Thursday for about one hour in a sign of solidarity with demonstrators in Turkey. The demonstrators were made up of some 40 members of the Global Project association as well as members of the "Centri Sociali delle Marche" youth clubs. The protesters lowered the Turkish flag to half mast and then went and sat in the Consul's office, where some journalists were permitted to meet with them. The building is located in the central Via XXIX Settembre street in Ancona. The protest was carried as a sign of solidarity to demonstrators in Turkey, and aimed at "widening the spaces open to democracy" in Europe, the protesters said.
