Expelled M5S Senator considers joining Mixed Group

'Relations still good with most 5-Star colleagues' says Gambaro

Expelled M5S Senator considers joining Mixed Group

Rome, June 20 - Senator Adele Gambaro said Thursday she will likely join the so-called "Mixed Group" of independents and tiny parties in parliament after the 5-Star Movement (M5S) voted to expel her for criticizing their incendiary leader, Beppe Grillo. "I think so. I haven't thought about it yet," the Senator told Italian Radio Radicale. On Wednesday the party rank and file voted online in favor of expelling her for blaming Grillo for the anti-establishment party's poor showing at recent local elections across the country. "After the expulsion, I think (I'll join the Mixed Group), after seeing what happened to Senator Marino Mastrangeli, who went to the Mixed Group," she said. Mastrangeli was voted out of the party in April for breaking a ban on appearing on television chat shows. Despite her expulsion, Gambaro said relations were still good with "the majority of my colleagues, with almost everyone". "There weren't any personal problems," she added.
