Motion by Grillo's group asks for ex-premier out of politics

Letta says govt not behind M5S oust-Berlusconi petition

(see previous) Rome, June 20 - Premier Enrico Letta said Thursday that his government had nothing to do with a petition proposed by rabble-rouser Beppe Grillo's 5-Star Movement (M5S) to push ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi out of politics. A motion by the anti-establishment M5S to have Berlusconi declared ineligible for public office could go to a formal vote next month, a lawmaker said Wednesday. "I will listen to and follow the instructions of the party...the government has nothing to do (with this initiative)," Letta said. The M5S vote may put Letta's Democratic Party (PD) in a difficult position as the premier is relying on Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party's support to keep his government afloat.
