Obama says U.S. and Germany share economic goals

President discusses nuclear weapons cuts in Berlin

Berlin, June 19 - The United States and Germany share similar economic goals, President Barack Obama said Wednesday during a visit to Berlin. "We want the same things: economic growth, job opportunities," Obama said during a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He was responding to a question about the economic crisis in Europe. Obama is on a state visit to the German capital where he is expected to call for a sharp reduction in nuclear warheads during a speech at the historic Brandenburg Gate. The president arrived there to music from violinists playing Bruce Springsteen's classic rock anthem "Born in the U.S.A.". He also called for an end to the bloodshed in Syria, adding that he believes the government of President Bashar al-Assad had used chemical weapons on its people and could not regain legitimacy.
