Tornado hits Biella area

Biella, June 19 - A tornado on Wednesday morning hit the area around the northwestern Italian city of Biella in Piedmont, causing extensive damage. The tornado and torrential rain destroyed several roofs of homes and eradicated two centuries-old trees close to a local castle in Varrone. Trees fell across the nearby towns of Benna and Vigliano, where a school and playground were damaged. Varrone Mayor Cinzia Bossi said she will ask that a state of emergency be declared.
