Padua, June 18 - Forest guards in northeastern Italy seized 1,700 protected cactus plants and 600 specimens of the hallucinogenic peyote cactus, investigators said on Tuesday. Complaints were filed against 13 people in the case for various crimes including drug racketeering. Prosecutors in Italy's northeastern coastal city Ancona coordinated the probe into international trafficking of protected plants and narcotic derivatives. Plant seizures were made by the Marche region unit of the national forest guard.
