Suspected prostitute uncovered at Florence home for elderly

Florence, June 18 - A woman in Florence is suspected of practicing prostitution inside a home for the elderly, local media reported Tuesday. The suspect, a 42-year-old Romanian national, was a former employee of the Il Borro assisted-living center who, according to personnel, requested a place to stay after falling down on her luck. Police say she lived inside a staff residence rent-free from 2011 to 2012 where she is believed to have turned tricks for a living. "We didn't know what kind of work she did," said the center in a statement. "She told us she was going through hard times, and giving her a home, as we've done with others, seemed like a nice gesture". The head of the center of the time was Massimo Mattei, a local councillor who resigned several days ago for health reasons. Police say they uncovered the alleged prostitute during a larger investigation into a suspected escort ring at a number of Florentine hotels.
