Italian beach-goers ignore dead tourist in water

Rome, June 17 - Swimmers and sunbathers continued to enjoy the summer heat Monday while attendants covered the body of an elderly Russian tourist found in the surf nearby. Authorities said two women sounded the alarm when they noticed the body of a 78-year-old woman in the waters at a beach in Formia, midway between Rome and Naples. But others enjoying the beach seemed to pay no attention to the corpse, covered in a white sheet, authorities said. A similar incident was reported in August 2011 on a beach near Ostia, on the coast outside Rome. The body of a 67-year-old, who died on a green beach towel under an umbrella, lay undiscovered for three hours, surrounded by happy bathers.
