Ryanair appeal rejected on Alitalia govt loan reimbursement

Brussels, June 13 - The European Court of Justice has rejected an appeal by low-cost carrier Ryanair, confirming a sentence in March 2012 that rejected the airline's attempt to force rival Alitalia's owners to reimburse a 300-million-euro loan from the Italian government. The sentences confirm an original 2008 ruling made by the European Commission, which qualified the original loan as unacceptable State aid but authorized the sale of its assets to Compagnia Aerea Italiana (CAI), a group of Italian investors who bought them after the Italian airline's 2008 bankruptcy. Air France and KLM later bought some 25% of Alitalia from CAI in 2009.
