Italian property market slumped 22.6% in 2012

Rome, June 13 - The property market in recession-hit Italy slumped by over 20% in 2012, national statistics agency Istat said Thursday. Istat said 632,117 property sales took place last year, down 22.6%. It added that this figure was 43.2% down on 2006. The agency said that the drop in real-estate deals was even worse in the fourth quarter of last year, when 174,599 properties changed hands, 25.7% down on the same period in 2011.
