Cabinet creates task force to fight violence against women

Rome, June 12 - The government is setting up a task force next Tuesday to fight violence against women, Equal Opportunities Minister Josefa Idem told the House's social affairs commission on Wednesday. The task force will include the ministers of interior, justice, health, education, labour, integration and economy and will focus on measures to tackle the problem ranging from "training of healthcare operators and police, prevention, repression, and, last but not least, finding the necessary financial resources," Idem said. The announcement comes a day after the government appointed a policy adviser on gender violence following growing reports of abuse and assaults on women in Italy.
