Taranto, June 11 - Finance police on Tuesday arrested 73 people and reported 132 for allegedly running a black market ship fuel operation based in the southern Italian port city of Taranto. Police also seized 28 tanker trucks. The targets of the probe are accused of stealing diesel used for ships from the ENI refinery in Taranto and selling it on the black market through willing distributors and depots. Shipping diesel has an added advantage of being subject to far lower taxes than other fuels. Arrests were carried out in the provinces of Taranto and another southern Italian port city, Bari, by the Taranto and Bari Guardia di Finanza police.
