Government to reduce flights for ministers

Rome, June 7 - In a move to ratchet down government spending, left-right Premier Enrico Letta's office said on Friday that it would be cutting the number of flights for Italy's ministers and top civil servants. "The objective is to contain public spending," the premier's office said. State flights should be used only when "necessary" or in "exceptional" circumstances, such as "urgent missions regarding national safety or for institutional reasons, and in the case of a lack of alternative means of transport," the communique said.
