New coach says Serie A giants must regain competitiveness

Soccer: Mazzarri to focus on Inter's fitness, self-belief

Milan, June 6 - Walter Mazzarri said that his first task will be to boost Inter Milan's fitness levels and self-belief when he was presented as the Serie A giants' new coach on Thursday. Former Napoli boss Mazzarri replaces Andrea Stramaccioni, who was sacked last month after Inter failed to qualify for European competition for the first time in 14 years last season. "We will work on the squad's athletic condition and self-esteem after a difficult year so that the players don't feel the effects of it," Mazzarri told a press conference. "We're starting from scratch. We're drawing a line under last season. "Inter must aim to be competitive again, given the prestigious nature of the club". Mazzarri, who left Napoli after leading them to a second-placed finish in Serie A and qualification for the European Champions League for the second time in his successful four-year stint in Naples, did not talk about any potential moves on the transfer market for Inter.
