Some 55,000 Italian manufacturing firms closed 2009-2012

(see related stories) Rome, June 5 - Around 55,000 manufacturing companies closed down in recession-ravaged Italy in the 2009-2012 period, the nation's industrial employers' confederation Confindustria said on Wednesday. A report by Confindustria's research centre said that Italy had 32,000 fewer firms at the start of this year than in 2007, when the calculations factored in new businesses that had opened. This figure excluded businesses composed just one individual.
