'Final details' being put to plant-saving decree

Bondi named ILVA commissioner

Rome, June 4 - The government on Tuesday named corporate troubleshooter Enrico Bondi commissioner to clean up and revamp steel group ILVA's troubled Taranto plant, Regional Affairs Minister Graziano del Rio told reporters. Bondi, 78, ILVA's outgoing CEO, revived bankrupt dairy group Parmalat before becoming spending-cuts czar for the previous government led by technocrat Mario Monti. Del Rio said the cabinet was still meeting to hammer out the "final details" on a decree to save Europe's biggest steel plant and make sure it stopped polluting the Puglia city around it.
