Milan, June 4 - Alexander Pereira was named Tuesday as the new head of the world-famous La Scala opera house in Milan. Pereira, who is currently head of the Salzburg Summer Festival of music in Austria, was the unanimous choice of La Scala's board. He will take over from the 2015 season. Pereira, 65, who also spent a decade as director of the Zurich Opera House, had been touted as the most credible successor to general manager and artistic director Stephane Lissner. Lissner is moving to Paris to become deputy director of the French National Opera in 2015.
