Police break up drug ring around Mediterranean

Madrid, June 4 - Fully 100 people were arrested in Italy and another 30 in Spain on Tuesday following a massive anti-mafia drug operation involving authorities in both countries. Police say that most of those caught were part of the Naples-based Camorra mafia clan of Giuseppe Polverino, who was arrested in Spain last March. Arrests are continuing, authorities add. It's believed the Polverino clan organized a vast drug trafficking network in Europe, particularly along the Spanish Mediterranean coast, bringing in hash from Morocco. The clan also operated some gambling rings. According to investigators, proceeds from the clan's crimes were reinvested in Spain through legal real-estate and catering operations in such cities as Malaga, Alicante, Tarragona, Ceuta, Cadiz and Castellon. The investigation broke open with the March arrest of Polverino and one of his key employees, Raffaeele Vallefuoco,
