National subsidies for environmental improvements extended

Rome, May 31- A national subsidy for green improvements to boost energy efficiency by consumers will be extended, the government announced Friday. Continuing the "ecobonus" was announced with "great satisfaction," because it will benefit the economy and the environment, said Environment Minister Andrea Orlando following a meeting of cabinet ministers. The measure, which is designed to encourage greater energy efficiency, is important for the environment and should lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide, said Orlando. But it will also encourage more spending and create employment in the construction sector for the recession-plagued economy, he added. The ecobonus will be extended to cover 65% of consumer spending on increased energy efficiency in buildings, the government announced.
