Mayor announces decision day before direct NY-Pisa flights open

Haring mural given heritage status in Pisa

Pisa, May 30 - The 1989 mural by Keith Haring "Tuttomondo", the only work by the New York artists carried out in Italy, will be given heritage status, Italy's Culture Superintendency said on Thursday. The mural was painted in the Tuscan city of Pisa by Haring a year before his death of Aids-related complications when he was 31-years-old. Haring once said that "if there a corner of paradise on earth, it is located in Pisa". The decision was announced by Mayor Marco Filippeschi the day before direct flights between New York and Pisa are slated to begin.
