Shock over Italian killed in Germany over spitting incident

Berlin, May 30 - The northern Italian city of Potenza is dedicating a minute of silence during its saints day procession on Thursday in memory of a 31-year-old man who was stabbed to death over an insult in Munich Tuesday night. The Italian consul to Bavaria confirmed details of the death to ANSA on Wednesday. Domenico Lorusso, engineer and resident in Germany, was peddling with his girlfriend along the Isar river path at about 10 pm when a man spit on the 28-year-old woman. Lorusso stopped and turned back to demand an explanation. A fight followed, and in the struggle the stranger - believed to be about 35 years old - pulled out a knife and stabbed Lorusso, piercing his heart. The killer fled on foot and is still being searched for by police. Lorusso's girlfriend sought urgent help from passersby to take Lorusso to the nearest hospital. He arrived at the emergency room alive, but did not survive the night.
