Italian Senate strongly approves constitutional reform plan

Rome, May 29 - By an overwhelming majority, Italian senators passed a motion Wednesday approving constitutional reforms aimed at improving government. The measure, approved by 224 yes votes (61 were opposed and four abstained), commits the government to organize a committee that will pull together a constitutional reform package within 18 months. It's expected the committee will be established and working next month on ways of improving how politicians are elected and how government operates.
