Italy must make structural reforms, cut debt says EC

Brussels, May 29 - Italy must balance its budget next year, start cutting its huge public debt and make key structural reforms, the European Commission said Wednesday after recommending the closure of an excessive-deficit procedure. It must overhaul the labour market, its civil-justice, education and tax systems and continue government-spending curbs, the EC said. Italy has the biggest debt in the eurozone after Greece, at about 130% of GDP.
