Idem touts protecting women at burned-alive teen's funeral

Apologizes for 16-year-old's 'tragic and absurd' slaying

Idem touts protecting women at burned-alive teen's funeral

(ANSA) -Rome, May 28 - Italy's equal opportunities minister said the State has to do more to protect women on Tuesday while speaking at the funeral of a teenage girl burned alive by her boyfriend. "I want first of all to express my closeness to the family in order to represent the pain felt by all Italians for this tragic and absurd loss," said Josefa Idem at a service for Fabiana Luzzi. Last week her boyfriend admitted to killing the 16-year-old girl by "stabbing her with a knife and then burning her while she was still alive," police said. Idem said she felt the need "to apologize to her and to all women, killed by those who abuse the word 'love'. "The State must increase its efforts (to protect women), and be closer to the victims".
