Incumbent Rome mayor slips further, projections say

(see related) Rome, May 27 - Incumbent Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno said he was not throwing in the towel after the latest projections put him over 10% behind center-left candidate Ignazio Marino in mayoral elections. "For me the match is still wide open. We have to fight until the end for the good of Rome," said Alemanno. In the fourth round of projections after two days of voting, Marino of the Democratic Party (PD) led with 41.2% of the vote compared to Alemanno's 30.5%, making a runoff increasingly likely. "The runoff isn't the second half of a match but an entirely different match," said Alemanno. "A significant number of people abstained, and for that reason we need everyone to turn out (to the runoff)".
