Human Rights Court 'rejects' Italy appeal on jails

Strasbourg, May 27 - The European Court of Human Rights has rejected Italy's appeal against a sentence condemning Rome for the state of Italian jails, ANSA sources said Monday. The court confirmed that Italy must find a solution to prison overcrowding by the end of the year and pay damages to inmates affected by the poor conditions, the sources said.
