Pope says human trafficking is 'shameful and ignoble'

Vatican City, May 24 - Human trafficking is a "shameful and ignoble activity" and calls for a serious examination of conscience both "personally and before God," Pope Francis told the Pontifical Council for Migrants on Friday. "It is a disgrace for our societies that consider themselves civilized," Francis said. Human trafficking is one of the most lucrative forms of crime worldwide after drug and arms trafficking, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime said in 2010. "The Church will continue its cry (against human trafficking) today and every day until the dignity and fundamental rights of each person is protected and respected," Pope Francis said.
