Pope renames Cardinal Vallini vicar general of Rome

Vatican City, May 23 - Pope Francis on Thursday renamed Cardinal Agostino Vallini the vicar general of Rome. Vallini was first appointed to the role in 2008 by Benedict XVI. As well as serving as vicar of Rome when the pope is not carrying out that role, the appointment includes being archpriest of the Lateran Basilica and grand chancellor of the Pontifical Lateran University.
